Belote is the beloved Bulgarian trick-taking game for four players in two teams. The goal is for your team to score more points from tricks and declarations; the match is played to 151 points.

- The deal. From a 32-card deck each player gets 5 cards (3 + 2); after the bidding, 3 more are dealt to each — everyone plays with 8.
- Bidding. You bid a suit (♣ < ♦ < ♥ < ♠), No Trumps or All Trumps, with double and redouble; three passes close the bidding, and four passes mean a redeal.
- Playing tricks. Follow suit; if you can't, you must trump (unless your partner is winning the trick), and in trumps you must play a higher trump if you can.
- Scoring. Declarations (tierce, fifty, hundred, four of a kind, belote) are added to the trick points, and the last trick is worth +10. The contracting team must score more than the opponents, or it goes "inside".
